Forty TRHS students on 4 teams competed in the Des Moines Regional High School Mock Trial Tournament on March 3, 2022. The teams finished third and fifth and because of these high rankings, both teams automatically qualified for the State Tournament, March 31-April 2, in Des Moines.
They will compete against about 30 schools from across the state which have placed at the top of each Regional Tournament. Over 100 schools statewide participate in this competition. TRHS is the only Des Moines Public School to participate.
The Green Team consists of 8 seniors and 2 juniors. Seven of this team were on the Middle School State Championship Team in 8th grade representing Merrill Middle school. The TRHS Foundation has fulfilled a grant request over multiple years to ensure the registration fee for all teams is covered in full and all students are able to participate. This program is run by extremely dedicated and generous volunteer lawyers in the Des Moines community.
Roosevelt’s Blue Mock Trial Team will join two other Rider Mock Trial Teams at the State Mock Trial Tournament in Des Moines next week. The Blue Team earned a bid to State by winning the Marshalltown Regional Tournament today, March 24.

TRHS is the only DMPS school in the State Tournament. Only two other schools in the State have 3 teams which have earned spots in the 32-team State Tournament. Some of the 40 total students who have participated in Mock Trial at Roosevelt this year are in their 7th year of Mock Trial competition. Iowa Mock Trial is sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Association. Registration fees are paid by a grant from the Roosevelt Foundation, and coaches of the teams are volunteer attorneys.
